COMMS PEOPLE Goa project success

SONIA Dhamrait, Marketing Executive at Maintel, has completed a volunteer project in Goa, India, with the full backing of her employer. Maintel readily supports employees involved with community involvement, both local and overseas, and sponsored Dhamrait’s project. She spent two weeks volunteering at the Seva Trust in Chimbel, Northern Goa, a non-profit organisation that provides a day care centre and orphanage for under privileged children from the surrounding slums. During the visit Dhamrait helped the centre to look after the children, teaching English, maths and fun activities, helping them with their homework and basic hygiene skills. “In the UK children are a lot more fortunate to have toys, computer games, iPods and mobile phones. In contrast, the children at the Trust don’t have anything. They appreciate the smallest things, you can see it in their faces,” said Dhamrait. “I would recommend volunteering, it’s a great experience.”
