The SCAD metals and jewelry department has partnered with the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association Atlanta Jewelry Show for several years to recognize and exhibit student work. SCAD is the only school asked to partner with SJTA and will again showcase student talent in 2011.
Well-known studio artists, educators and jewelry industry professionals visit the SCAD metals and jewelry department and engage with students — motivating them to improve their skills, stimulating their creativity and providing insight into the workings of the professional world. Guests of the program have included Gijs Bakker, co-founder of Droog Design; Ted Noten, internationally admired jewelry designer; Omar Torres, former designer director for Van Cleef & Arpel and Bulgari; Robert Lee Morris of RLM jewelry company; Anthony Camargo and Nak Armstrong of Anthony Nak jewelry company; Chi Huynh from GALATEA jewelry company; Donald Freidlich, the past president of the Society of North American Goldsmiths; Robert Ebendorf, professional studio artist and educator; Andrew Wagner, chief editor of American Craft Magazine; Barbara Heinrich, well-known jewelry designer; Gail Brown, respected independent curator; Charon Kransen, gallery owner and critic; and many others.
