Marine Design
The SCAD marine design minor heavily emphasizes user needs and desires, material research and exploration, the development of hull forms, and the aesthetic impact of exterior and interior environments. The combination of human factors, interior design, selected facets of naval architecture, CAD and full- size prototype development create innovative solutions that are visually appealing, functional and thought-provoking.

In 2010, the marine design program worked with Glastron, a respected manufacturer of fiberglass powerboats, to develop new models for their upcoming product line and infuse the existing brand with new design elements. Students traveled to the Michigan headquarters of Four Winns, where they learned about Glastron’s industry-leading construction and design techniques. The students worked intimately with Christophe Lavigne, vice president of engineering for Four Winns, and his design and engineering staff to envision and design Glastron’s next generation of watercraft.
