19 Fibers

The intensive curriculum at SCAD, guided by the largest full-time fibers faculty in the United States, provides each student with a foundation in the rich technical, cultural and historical traditions of the fibers/textiles discipline while providing advanced facilities, equipment and opportunities to support in-depth research and growth.

Undergraduate and graduate students explore, engage and collaborate in the inspiring 20,759-square-foot Pepe Hall—the largest, most comprehensive and best-equipped fibers facility in U.S. higher education. The facility features dedicated areas for screen-printing, dyeing, weaving, sewing, felting and papermaking. Two large, shared graduate studios foster constant dialogue between students. All students have access to top technology and industry-standard equipment to support their ideas at scales both large and small: an electronic Jacquard loom, five Compu-Dobby looms, a Mimaki textile printer, a digital embroidery machine, knitting machines, a felting machine and a 40-gallon dye kettle. The custom studios in this state-of-the-art facility support learning of various and diverse processes, from ancient approaches to high-tech methods.
