Several students, including Francis Fave (B.F.A., industrial design, 2010, Virginia Beach, Virginia), Alex Evans (B.F.A., industrial design,

2009, Atlanta, Georgia), Matt Holmes (B.F.A., industrial design, 2009, West River, Maryland), Alex Marshall (B.F.A., industrial design, 2009, Tyler, Texas), Jake Hinkle (B.F.A., industrial design, 2009, Vienna, Virginia) and Jin Namkung (B.F.A., industrial design, 2010, Seoul, South Korea), collaborated with JCB Worldwide, the third largest heavy equipment manufacturer in the world.

The combination of a world-class experienced faculty, a holistic forward-thinking curriculum and the use of cutting- edge, industry-standard equipment enables students to flourish creatively and technically. Most importantly, the industrial design program prepares students to be productive from the very first day of their professional lives.

One way in which the department distinguishes itself in preparing students for successful careers is by continuously cultivating meaningful partnerships within the industry. The SCAD industrial design program has more industry- sponsored projects than any other industrial design program in the United States, enabling students to participate in real projects with real clients to solve actual problems.

Upper-level students who participate in the projects gain valuable work experience, improved skills and an understanding of the professional world. Additionally, students must work in a mature and fast-paced environment driven by client goals, deadlines and deliverables. One hundred percent of industrial design graduates leave SCAD with professional industry experience.

SCAD’s industrial design program seeks to provide students with access to the most advanced professional environments, instilling in them high standards of expectation. The sponsored-project program has truly become the hallmark of the industrial design curriculum. Projects have been sponsored by such companies as Coca-Cola, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., JCB Inc., Dell, Case-Mate, KICKER by Stillwater Designs Inc., Freescale, Philips, PlayPower, Newell Rubbermaid, Kiz Toys, Fossil, Motorola, Johnson Controls, VTech and Kids II.
