Design for Sustainability
Design for sustainability is a truly cross-disciplinary program open to all creative fields of study, from architecture and product design to creative writing and graphic design, from engineering and design management to marketing. SCAD offers a minor and Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in design for sustainability. The program embraces sustainability as an integrative framework: • by synthesizing the strengths of various design disciplines; • by dealing with 2-D and 3-D design as well as system and service design, communication and education, business models, and social innovation;
• and by focusing on holistically addressing personal, local and global challenges to the human condition in the 21st century.
Students learn to transform short-term thinking into long-term design solutions that address social, cultural, environmental and economic problems.
