G’day all! Things might be cooling down a bit in the southern states over here
but don’t forget to tell your clients that Australia is a year-round destination – when it’s cooler in Sydney it’s just right up north!
holidays and is looking to Australia for his next adrenalin hit. Can you recommend any good routes? DEAN, SOUTHPORT
Q A
Hi Dean. Australia has some pretty epic drives if your client is up for
it. One of the most ambitious is The Australian Way, which links Darwin in the Northern Territory to Broome in Western Australia. The drive snakes through some of Australia’s most untouched areas – namely the stunning Kimberley region. And there are some really cool places
to stop off en-route to get a little shut eye, which is really important when you’re driving all day! Allow up to two weeks to do the drive and make sure your client brushes up on safety precautions to follow when driving in
Hi Stevo. One of my clients is keen on big, ambitious self-drive
the outback. If they are really ambitious they can continue the drive through to Cairns in Queensland. Hardcore stuff!
to really get to the heart of the city. Do you have any top tips for exploring Melbourne? SHAUNA, PRESTON
Q A
Great question Shauna. Melbourne is a fantastic city with plenty to
do. But it’s a city that is best experienced with the help of a local. You’re clients could spend the day with someone from Hidden Secrets Tours to get the inside scoop on shopping, bars and Melbourne’s famous coffee scene. If they’re independent types, advise them to jump on the free city-circle tram, which loops the city. Exploring the lanes and chatting to the locals is the way to go.
Hi Stevo. My clients are spending a week in Melbourne and want
Working Holiday Visa for two years. I’ve told him he can do this but that he must work on a farm or do some fruit-picking to qualify for the second year. Is this correct? EMMA, ABERDEEN
Q A
G’day Emma. You’re almost right! A working holidaymaker needs
to do three months of ‘specified work’ in particular areas of Australia to qualify for the second year visa. Note that ‘specified work’ could be
farm work or fruit-picking, but there are other jobs that also qualify. The other thing to stress is that he checks that the work is in a qualifying location. He can check the list of qualifying locations, as well as a breakdown of what constitutes ‘specified work’, at

Hi Stevo. I have a young client who wants to go to Australia on a
|the first time next year who are real nature lovers. What should they see? JENNY, KENT
Q A
G’day Jenny! I’m always telling people about our unique wildlife
and stunning natural landscapes. One of the best things about Australia is that your clients won’t have to travel far from the gateway cities to enjoy these wonders – even in some cities you can meet kangaroos and koalas! To really appreciate the great outdoors though, organise for your clients to travel beyond the cities to enjoy the native wildlife in their natural habitats. Book them special experiences such as sea-lion swims, penguin parades, Tassie devil feeding and turtle conservation projects to add more memorable moments.
Dear Stevo. I have some clients who want to visit Australia for
