I recently attended the fifth ACE (Association of Cruise Experts) Conference in Southampton with my colleagues Julie Graves and Steve Barnes. It was a great event and gave us the opportunity to meet with loads of agents and ABTA travel industry partners. ABTA took part in the first Columbus Day which was addressed by Mike Penning MP, the Minister for Shipping at the Department of Transport. He talked about how the cruise industry has been instrumental in regenerating areas, not least the ports served in the UK, and how it has had a positive impact on the UK economy. The ship visits are the great advantage of attending this conference as there is nothing quite like experiencing the product first hand. This year, for the first time, conference sessions took place onboard and as a result we were able to experience Fred Olsen’s beautiful Balmoral, Royal Caribbean’s amazing Independence of the Seas and Cunard’s luxurious Queen Elizabeth. Each offer something unique. Attending industry events is a great
way to keep up to date with trends and products. ABTA’s annual Travel Convention has become a leader for this. Bookings have opened for The Travel Convention which will take place in Palma de Mallorca, from October 3-5 this year. Visit www.
thetravelconvention.com for more information and how to book. Look out for our new Accessible
Travel Made Easy module two on
www.accessibletravelmadeeasy. com, which was developed with the Equality and Human Rights Commission. It's free and interactive! If you would like more information
