talking shop AGENT TRAINING Kenya takes to the road The Kenya Tourist Board celebrated a
record trade turn-out at its recent road shows in Dublin, Manchester and London. Almost 250 agents and operators
attended the events to meet 11 partners, representing a range of resorts, hotel groups, tour companies and game reserves. Each road show included presentations, knowledge- building activities and a quiz. At the end of the evening, one lucky winner in each city was awarded a once-in-a-life-time holiday to Kenya. Runner-up prizes included places on a
Kenya Tourist Board fam trip in November, copies of Long Way Down, a book detailing Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s African adventure, as well as novelty gifts from Kenya Airways as the booby prize.
Easter winners
Agents had a choc-tastic Easter thanks to a series of incentives run by Travel Uni. Cadbury Easter hampers, packed
with £25 worth of chocolate, went to Kathleen Hudspith, Kayleigh Hopkinson, of Trailblazer Travel, and Debbie Taylor, of Miles Morgan Travel, who won the prizes for completing the new four-module Seychelles Superstar programme. Paula Emmenegger from Travel Counsellors also got in the spirit of the season winning a Colorado bag full of Easter treats and Colorado rock. In addition Travel Uni’s social
network, The Hive, gave away £10 Thornton’s Chocolate vouchers to Sharon McConway, of North America Travel Service; Vicky Wren, of L J Travel, and Jemma Allerton, of Thomas Cook, in a members’ prize draw.
First-quarter arrival figures for Kenya
show a 10 per cent increase. Angie Sloan, Kenya Tourist Board UK director, said: “Kenya has bucked the trend with steady growth in 2009, 2010 and the first quarter of 2011. It is a trade
favourite and as it is a more complex product, often involving two or three centres, consumers favour booking through agents. We hope the roadshow and fam trips will help."

It's time to get to know Macau
Wising up to the wonders of Macau opened the way to a fabulous trip to the destination for two agents. Clare Hudson, of Travel Counsellors,
and Becky Marchant, of Bath Travel, discovered the island’s appeal first hand. Clare said: “I loved the Portuguese influence (especially the food) and the heritage, together with all the lovely hotels. I can see it as a great combination with Hong Kong as a dual- centre trip or as a stop over instead of Hong Kong en route to Australia or New Zealand. Combining it with other Far East destinations on a tailor made multi-centre tour would also be definitely worth considering. “

Becky added: “I was really pleased we
got to experience so many different aspects of Macau as this makes it easier to sell to clients. I think Macau has something for every type of client– it has so much to offer. The options are truly endless; there is so much to see and do and I had an amazing time."
