open in mid-2013 will transform St Vincent and the Grenadines' tourism fortunes, says Glen Beache, chief executive officer of the multi-island destination’s tourism authority. The Argyle International Airport will
have a runway large enough to accommodate Boeing 747-400s and is expected to attract flights from Europe. Beache confirmed that SVG is already
in discussion with UK-based airlines. “We are a different Caribbean destination that is away from the crowds and delivers what you expect to find in the Caribbean: dream beaches, sunshine and authentic culture. We also have a product that, in Caribbean terms, is still new, diverse and of a high quality. One of the factors that differentiates SVG from other islands is its geographic remoteness," he said.
Other developments in the destination include a $250-million upgrade of the Raffles Resort on Canouan island, which will be renamed Canouan Resort, and a $60-million upgrade to the private island Petit St Vincent. Future tourism development would be
