You can rent tables, offices and buy expertise and machine time by the hour. You no longer need tremendous technical expertise to turn your idea into reality. Ask yourself an open question; would this be applicable in the insurance industry? Can you create your own insurance product, or perhaps co-create one with customers and/or intermediaries?
Another interesting example within our business is the initiative from a group of students from the Moore School at the University of South Carolina. The purpose of their Innovation in Insurance initiative is to foster innovation in the way insurance is practised by providing a portal to all online resources helpful to insurance technology, services and outsourcing. Although the
portal’s main focus is US insurance matters, it contains information on every part of the business process.
Besides these hopefully useful but ‘cold’ online examples, let’s not forget that our customers and customers in general are our number one source for inspiration. At the end of the day, it is the customer who decides if our products and services add any value for him. This is an open door but, with the pressures of everyday life, is one that is often overlooked. So, where do we find a source of inspiration? Look around you, there is a big chance that your family, friends or colleagues own some insurance products. Ask them about their customer experiences and they could deliver you great new insights. Innovation = easy, inspiration is the same.
