FEATURE CAR PARK REFURBISHMENT

Every little thing… from bays to brollies

Car park operator Q-Park is the master of car park refurbishments because the award-winning European company sticks to a few simple, eco-friendly and customer- focused rules each time it takes over the lease of a car park, to turn it into a premier parking destination. All of its refurbished car parks are attractive, safe, and secure, with energy-efficient lighting, painted walls and a floor coating that is waterproof, highly robust and skid- resistant, making it easy to maintain with a clean look and feel. Car parks also have painted black pads to mark out the parking bays, enabling drivers to park easily. Well-positioned and clear directional signage – including painted arrows and vehicle and pedestrian signs – hang from the ceiling, ensuring easy navigation around all refurbished car parks along with external, illuminated signs to help direct customers into the facility. All Q-Park customers are accommodated; clearly identifiable, designated disabled bays are made available in refurbished car parks and will be conveniently located

Designs on parking

As the demand for visually attractive and highly technical car park facilities drives the market, Ashtech rainscreen cladding has been increasingly specified for a number of building or refurbishments across the UK. In Luton, a multi-storey car park project for National

Rail Networks called for a degree of rain cladding and a specially-designed extrusion (complex cross-sections) to enable the building to meet ventilation requirements. Ash and Lacy’s in-house design team came up with a solution to meet the project specifications. Eastside car park, part of Birmingham’s ‘Big City Plan’ regeneration scheme, is currently being constructed adjacent to Birmingham’s Millennium Point, and illustrates another aspect of design innovation achieved using Ashtech panels. Designed by Urban Design – Birmingham City Council’s in-house design team and managed by Thomas Vale Construction, Ashtech panels have been used in a 3-D geometric layout. Due to limited space at Eastside, the framework and panels were pre-fabricated at Ash and Lacy’s own facility in West Bromwich and supplied to site, pre-assembled and ready to be fitted by façade and barrier contractors Berry Systems. The two car parks are very different and display two of the many design possibilities that can be achieved using Ashtech. Ash and Lacy’s technical support team can assist specifiers from concept stages right the way through to installation. The addition of the Ashcolit Suite of linear support systems to Ash and Lacy’s portfolio has now opened up a new world of even more innovative rainscreen cladding options.

very close to lifts. Car parks are also equipped with large doors, which allow disabled users entry and exit, and automatic doors at pedestrian entrances. In all Q-Park-refurbished car parks highly visible, glass- fronted ‘lodges’ house a dedicated control centre, which is both an information point and enables face-to-face customer communication. This is where Q-Park parking hosts monitor the CCTV cameras that are located at various points around the car park, further ensuring the safety of customers and their vehicles by keeping potential criminals at bay. In keeping with the company’s customer-focused approach, all Q-Park refurbished car parks are equipped with both golf umbrellas and smart, highly manoeuvrable and comfortable baby buggies for customers to borrow, free of charge, for as long as required. Jump leads are also available for dead car battery emergencies, adding to the wealth of perks on offer for the customers of refurbished Q-Park car parks.
