which opened up production in the East. The Swiss failed to see the full potential of lower cost quartz powered timepieces. However, it is actually the development of the
lower cost watches that has propelled the luxury automatic market. Just as in the 18th and 19th centuries, a handmade automatic watch is once again a sign of wealth and status.
Further, despite their accuracy, some people find quartz powered watches to be ‘soulless’ and love the idea that the watch they are wearing has a human connection to the person who made it.
Christopher Ward London is pledged to support the development of the UK watchmaking industry. Chris Ward himself can see the potential for making a Christopher Ward London automatic watch that is not only designed in Britain, but also made from British produced components. He says: “It is my ambition to be able to produce a Christopher Ward London watch using British components and I can foresee a time when we could produce a limited edition piece for our aficionado customers.”

John Harrison inspired watches
The collection comprises three models all featuring highly decorative automatic complications, the C9 Harrison Automatic, the C9 Harrison GMT and the highly sought after C9 Harrison Chronograph which is limited to 250 pieces worldwide.

he C9 Harrison Automatic Chronograph is the more complex of the three including an event timing function through it’s modified ETA 7750 two-eye Valjoux movement.
Features include an hour and minute
chronograph function, see-through back and a case that is water resistant to 50 metres. Each watch is engraved with its own individual serial number and is presented in a beautifully designed case with an owner’s handbook. All three 43mm watches in the series combine Christopher Ward London’s subtle English styling with a modern twist. The Auto features an ETA 2824-2 movement, while the GMT – (Greenwich Mean Time) – gives added functionality through its ETA 2893-2 movement. Two time zones can be set through its crown.
