Leeds MAG at Christmas
MAG has had a long and healthy relationship with Lineham Farm where Reps Training Seminars have been held a number of times over the years. Leeds Motorcycle Action Group supports the centre and at Christmas makes a toy run to the it. Sheila and Andy of Leeds MAG spread the word to meet at the Dragon Hotel, Whitehall Road. With help from other branch officials and club members, Bob and his dad, also Bob, of Yorkshire Trikers & myself met up in Alverthorpe to make the run via Batley and Dewsbury to Leeds.
The trikes were stacked up with sacks of toys & Bob jnr had his red trike and trailer filled to capacity. The trailer sported a unique light bar reading ‘Leeds MAG Toy Run’ flashing the message to amused passing drivers, who pointed and waved at us in our santa outfits. Luckily the snow held off though the roads were busy and we hit the ring road during peak time for traffic but still made the Dragon on time.
From there a long line of bikes and trikes headed towards Lineham Childrens Centre Farm through Kirkstall and Eccup in Leeds. On arrival we emptied the bikes of goods which we took indoors where we were treated to free hot drinks, mince pies and a warm welcome from both staff and our biker friends.
The staff organised the children into a choir for songs before Bob jnr from Yorkshire Trikers handed out the presents in his Santa outfit. Before too long the children started taking an interest in our trikes and bikes in the yard outside. Both staff and children were then treated to pillion rides on two of the trikes at slow speeds around the grounds.
It was great to see members from Leeds MAG, other MAG branches & local groups like East Leeds Lions, Team Sober, GEMCC, and Yorkshire Trikers, all actively supporting the Lineham Farm Childrens Centre.

Birthday present Brighton MAG
Brighton MAG is a new group and we have worked hard to keep the interest up locally over the past few months. We have had stands at both Brighton & the Ace Café Brighton burn up, submitted a comprehensive return to the West Sussex local Transport plan and were the only people to return any comment on the lack of inclusion or consideration of motorcycling in the plan (see 2.10
www.westsussex.gov.uk/ltp). We have run a bike maintenance night and have monthly bike-related pub quizzes which are very popular and are attended by lots of the local biking groups. We are also due to see one of our MPs to discuss our local issues.
What better way to celebrate your birthday than by joining MAG. That was the view taken by this chap who decided to treat himself to a membership by way of a present. Performing the formalities at The Carole Nash Motorcycle Live NEC Show is Rushden MAG Rep Neil Daniel. Why not sign up someone you know by way of a birthday present and solve that ‘I’d always meant to join’ problem for them?
Go and check the birthdays of all the riders you know who you feel should be members and enrol them. They will thank you for the rest of their lives. Go on line now to
www.mag–
uk.org and click ‘join’ it’s so simple.
I am currently setting up a meeting with the police to discuss local attitudes to motorcycling and joint working on road safety.
Thanks to all of the volunteers who are supporting Brighton MAG. We have aligned ourselves to a B&B in France that is willing to give MAG members discount and I am currently working on them being a corporate member. One of the Brighton members is going over soon to do a small story on them after winning some free accommodation with them in one of our local competitions.
www.mototaranis.com On the political front we did have meetings set up with some of the local MP's but the snow put paid to it. We will persist.
