I enjoyed reading Charles Sweeney’s soap box about the AA (Awful Attitude). Sorry Charles you only have yourself to blame. Everyone with a bike should use the MAG breakdown service. It’s cheaper than the AA as well! You get full European cover, car and bike for £90 (£50 for bike alone). We broke down in the car in France a few months ago and the service was impeccable. The woman in the call centre was superb and the contractor prompt and helpful. I can't recommend it highly enough – far better than my experiences with the RAC a few years ago. Support MAG and buy the MAG breakdown service. It’s a win win for bikers. Chris Cherrington
Ed, I used the MAG service once when my old Harley FXR finally threw the towel in at 150,000 miles and I needed to get from Luxembourg to Venice. I was picked up within an hour and was in a car within another hour with my bike behind me on a trailer. We then drove to Venice where I arrived far earlier than I would have if I hadn’t broken down though that bit may not surprise some people. It’s a great deal, though if it wasn’t for people like me I guess it might be even cheaper.
Congratulations
Please send my congratulations to the staff who ran the MAG stand at the NEC Carole Nash International Motorcycle Show who were cheerful and happy to talk as usual. Hope they signed up a few, it seemed like they did the day I was there. Duncan
Genesis sorted it A few years ago I got hold of a Triumph Adventurer. It had been messed about with quite a bit but was all there and for a good price. It was running a little rough so I sought help, including that of a main dealer. It got slightly better each time but I was losing faith, patience and money.
It has had the carbs balanced countless times, as well as new plugs and an airbox. It’s been run on a dyno and had its carbs cleaned and balanced. This went on for over two years during which I continued to use the bike but it was NEVER right.
I then met Chris from Genesis Motorcycles in Bromsgrove who promised to sort it out and he did!
Chris is the nicest bloke you could meet and runs a garage that you could eat your dinner off the floor of. I have never seen such an organised, professional yet laid back and friendly place. The bike was steam cleaned, polished and immaculate when I picked it up and now runs like a dream.
I cannot praise this garage highly enough. Richard Battye

Get a unicycle
I have been a MAG member now for something like 22 years. I think I joined around the time of the leg protector lark. It's never ceased to amaze me how much work MAG has done over the years to protect our right to ride. The never ending commitment of all the people involved is something that as MAG members we should all be very grateful for. On the negative side, I’m at a total loss to know why it is that people who say that they love motorcycling don’t join up. Do they realise that without organizations like MAG, their motorcycling could be seriously curtailed, or are these people just weekend warriors, who have all the gear just so they can say, “I'm a biker.”
My criticism also extends to the so called bike magazines. If these publications like the front wheel of a bike to be in the air so much, then do us all a favour, give up motorcycling, and buy yourselves a unicycle.
The article and comments by Lois Pryce were very enjoyable to read, and also bang on the
target with her comment, “It's vital that people fight against it, even if they don't get actively involved, so long as they pay their membership they’re doing their bit. I mean it’s £25, what is their problem?”
I can honestly say that I don’t in any way contribute to MAG other than via my membership fee. Unfortunately there are no local MAG groups in South East Spain. I will always send my money off however, because at the end of the day what happens in the UK will happen in Spain and visa versa. So let’s make 2011 a year that we all try to get someone to join MAG. At the end of the day
it’s only £25 for someone else to do all the running around for you. In my book that’s a bargain.
Can I wish all MAG staff and all MAG members a safe and happy 2011. Garry Davis
Ed: While we like members to be as involved as they can be we totally accept that not all can and inactive members are totally welcome Garry. The overwhelming majority of most pressure groups’ members are passive but their membership fee enables the organisations to function and we are no different. Perhaps if enough people write to the commercial magazines and make the points that you do, they may finally recognise that they are not truly reflecting the contemporary rider’s attitude.
Inn in Iron Acton on the first Tuesday of the month. The food there is good and some like to arrive early and have a meal. There must be a lot more members in the area I’ve not met and we’d like to see you come along too. Even if you can’t or don’t want to come regularly, please make yourself known to me, either by phone (07977 251171) or e-mail
underhill@madasafish.com so I can keep you informed of local activities and campaigns, and so you can put forward your own ideas.
Over the summer I’m hoping we’ll have a series of roving meetings between our regular
ones, primarily social meetings so we can have a run out to a different venue for a meal or just a chat. Maybe you know a place near you, or even somewhere a bit further a-field you'd like to suggest.
On campaign issues it would be good to know that all MPs have MAG members in their constituencies who are prepared to write an occasional letter. Then we would know that all MPs are being targeted and none are slipping through the net. I’m looking forward to hearing from you, Hugh Probert, Not Avon Rep
