BY LAURA GELDER Centara Hotels and Resorts has announced it will expand its Boutique Collection brand in 2011 as well as opening the first Centra property at the budget end of the market. The Boutique Collection was launched


nearly a year ago and currently numbers eight properties in Thailand and one in India, but Centara plans to grow its stable to between 30 and 40 boutique properties over the next five years. There will be two new X2 Residences serviced properties – one next to the X2 Samui Villas and the other next to X2 Hua Hin Kui Buri. Away Koh Kood is upgrading its accommodation and has relocated its spa to a sea-view area, with new treatment spaces and an improved menu. The activity centre has been expanded to include Castaway, a late-night bar with a snack menu. The company will also build X2 Koh Kood, next to Away Koh Kood. The first budget Centra hotel, Centra Ashlee Hotel Patong, has opened in

will introduce Laos’ first luxury tented camp to the UK market this spring. Twin camps will be located on the


banks of the Huay Sae River Valley, offering guests the chance to trek on elephant, horse, bamboo raft or foot. The company is the only operator permitted to operate treks in this protected area. Tents will be furnished with 19th century-style furniture on hardwood floors with whirlpool bathtubs.
