XLN powers down costs
XLN Telecom is working with utility firms such as E.ON in a bid to help SMEs achieve lower gas and electricity prices. The plan follows a survey of XLN customers who expect their fuel bills to rise on average from £152 to £394 a month in the winter. XLN’s CEO and founder, Christian Nellemann, said: “We relish the opportunity to help SMEs get the best gas and electricity prices possible. Operating costs can be a growth barrier for this sector. “We believe identifying and negotiating the most suitable contracts from the biggest names in the industry will really make a difference to SMEs’ bottom lines.”

Nimans goes speed dating
A SPEED dating session between some of the Nimans’ suppliers and the distributor’s staff helped to forge closer relationships while enhancing product knowledge. Nimans’ first vendor showcase exhibition, dubbed Lunch ‘N’ Learn, saw 11 suppliers converge on the Manchester HQ to promote their products and services to the Dealer Sales Team and other key members of the Nimans workforce. The venture allowed selected brands to grab a bigger share of the limelight and raise their profiles. Staff had a set period of time to visit each supplier and discuss new ways to harness revenue potential. After a session vendors signed an individual’s form, and all complet- ed entries went into a prize draw. Running from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, the initiative was a big success for Darren Bullis, Technical Product Manager from door phone, access control system and heavy duty phone manufac- turer, Kalika.
He commented: “It was a great
opportunity to meet people face- to-face so that they could gain a better direct understanding of our modular product range. “We’ve done industry shows
before but nothing like this and it’s been worthwhile.” Jerry Mills, MD of structured cable management system firm, Fusion, said the event was ‘the best training activity we’ve ever been involved in’. He added: “We spoke to staff across many levels of the business and different abilities.” Nimans’ Dealer Sales Director,
Tom Maxwell, also noted: “The sales staff found the event fun and informative, seeing some products for the first time in the flesh, help- ing us and our suppliers to better position products and build closer one-to-one relationships. “The Lunch ‘N’ Learn event added a new dimension to tra- ditional classroom-based product training. It was more hands-on which proved a real advantage.”

Toshiba BCD’s a hit for ICON
A DEAL between ICON and Toshiba Business Communications Division (BCD) UK, arranged in September 2010, has delivered bet- ter than expected results in its first three months of operation. Under the deal Toshiba BCD
will recommend the KIRK DECT mobility solution as an add-on to its range of CIX PBX solutions. ICON is a value added dis- tributor of Polycom KIRK DECT and Polycom SpectraLink Wi-Fi mobility solutions. Its Sales Manager, Mark Shane, commented: “This is an excellent deal for both companies and a win win for the channel. Many of Toshiba BCD’s business partners are already KIRK DECT solution providers and this accord confirms
Mark Shane
their decision to offer KIRK DECT solutions from ICON. “These partners will continue
to receive support from ICON, but now they will be able offer an on-site mobility solution endorsed and supported by Toshiba BCD in the UK.”

over 4.3 million Android devices, with HTC, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung accounting for 84% of total Android shipments. This lift- ed the platform into third position with 23% market share. Apple’s iPhone 4 was a big hit with 4.5 million units shipped, 102% higher than 3Q09, giving iOS 24% market share.
