www.comms-dealer.com EDITOR’S COMMENT
SO, ANOTHER decade dawns and let’s get straight to business because there’s plenty to do according to the prevailing ‘Year of...’ mantras. You can take your pick from ‘The Year of the Cloud’, ‘The Year of Super-Fast Fibre’, ‘The Year of Video Communications’, ‘The Year of Consistent Connectivity’, the list goes on. From what we are hearing 2011 is set to be the year when many developing technologies see irreversible change. Such a convergence of so many technology tipping points should, on paper, render 2011 a golden era. Reflecting the market game changes, Comms Dealer will hold Business Transformation at the core of its editorial

campaigns in 2011. Also ranking high on our agenda is VoIP security. There is a lack of awareness in the channel about PBX hacking and toll fraud and we aim to bring these issues to the fore this year. Whatever business transformations you go through in the 12 months ahead, have a very Happy and
Prosperous New Year. n Stuart Gilroy

DAISY Wholesale is matching resellers pound-for-pound under a new Consolidate for Cash scheme. Under the promotion, resell- ers that consolidate their calls and broadband services or place a new MPLS IP VPN solution with Daisy Wholesale will receive a bonus that is equal to the amount of monthly spend brought to the table. This is the first major campaign to be launched under the new direction of Daisy Wholesale MD Carl Churchill. He said: “It really is that simple.
For example, if you have £10,000 per month spend on calls and move the traffic to us we will give you £10,000 cash back. “This cash bonus can be invest- ed back into the reseller’s business, helping them to realise plans in the pipeline but could not previ- ously afford, and ultimately help- ing them prosper and grow.”

Voice power behind Iovox
A NEW voice platform is aiming to land a knock out punch on what its backers call a ‘broken telco model’. The company behind the bold
offensive, Iovox, is offering Voice as a Service (VaaS) in the form of an open voice platform enabling non- programmers to build applications that put the functionality of the web into voice services. The platform allows customers
to create voice-enabled websites, offline advertising and improve regular telephony through a simple drag-and-drop process to sell goods and services, provide customer support, understand audiences and responses, create alerts and much more. Voice services can also be drilled down-on to generate sophis- ticated analytics. Iovox’s CEO, Ryan Gallagher, commented on the timing of the launch: “The time is right to give
Scheme turns old kit into cool cash
SURPLUS, obsolete and waste electrical equipment can be transformed into ready cash under a recycling scheme operated by Metcom International and Broadband Recycling.
Rather than taking up shelf space, unused and redundant kit could hold a value in other parts of the world, turning dust traps and dead space into income.
Michael Roberts, co-owner of
Metcom, said: “Many organisations are sitting on surplus or old equipment. Metcom can help to take this redundant stock and find a buyer here or abroad.” Metcom buys and sells surplus and obsolete telecoms, data and cable TV equipment, while sister firm Broadband Recycling specialises in the recycling of waste
electrical and electronic equipment, boasting 12 years of experience in recycling such products. “Some electrical and electronic equipment cannot be reused, but Broadband Recycling can turn a negative into a positive,” commented Roberts. “Now is a good time for companies to look at the stock stagnating on their balance sheets
and transform it into income for the New Year. “The longer companies sit on their old technology the less opportunity there is to derive value from it.” During Q1 2011, the companies
are offering a free consultation to those who want to find an avenue for their surplus, obsolete and waste electrical equipment.
the power of web voice services to the public. Despite falling revenues people forget that voice is still growing exponentially. It is the most compelling and human way to communicate and persuade. “There are lots of things you can do with voice that you can’t do with email, SMS or other technolo- gies. Voice has a human element and a sense of urgency, but the old telco model is broken. “Telephony is the same as it was
25 years ago and with our platform we’re looking to change this with its innovative functionality. “By freeing up the voice services platform we’re enabling people to monetise their telephone traffic, be entrepreneurial and give a wave of people the chance to build cool new telephony apps without needing technical knowledge.” TV’s biggest voice backs Iovox – page 24

GAMMA Telecom’s nationwide castle tour is a significant develop- ment in the firm’s marketing plan, according to Richard Bligh, Gamma’s Marketing Director. He commented: “Going out to see the channel is an important part our marketing strategy. The questions are great and the feedback is invaluable in helping shape the right products for our channel partners to take to market.”
