Remo and Rose Morris collaborate to introduce drum circle initiative

Percussion brand and London retailer team up with Rhythm Synergy to offer weekly event

Music Centre at the Rose Morris store on London’s Denmark Street. These events, similar in style to drum

A

circles – a popular initiative in the United States – are intended to bring Londoners together through musical interaction and help relieve some of the stress that has become part of many peoples’ city lives. Supported by percussion manufacturer

Remo, people of all ages, occupations, races and levels of musical ability are invited to take part in a series of fun and simple activities that are aimed at allowing people to enjoy the benefits of playing music as part of a group. The weekly sessions will begin officially

on January 10th and will be hosted by Jamie Morgan and Carla Viegas of Rhythm

new weekly percussion gathering has been launched as part of the opening of a new Recreational

Synergy, a company that runs corporate, community and educational events. The first session will take place on the lower floor of Rose Morris’ sheet music store. The Recreational Music Centre will also be a facility for various other musical activities, such as those related to education, health and team building. “Everybody is welcome,” said Morgan.

“It’s important to make music accessible again and I believe it’s a great way to communicate. We’ve never been able to do something like this in Central London and this is my inspiration – reconnecting people with the joy of making music.” Should this prove a hit, it could be a

model for other UK retailers to get more people playing music and more potential customers into their shops. The success of such projects in the US has created profitable ventures for many, as

participants, who might never have considered learning an instrument, are encouraged to do so. Tom Robinson of EMD, the UK

distributor for Remo, is keen to point out the US as a case study for this. “Remo US has been supporting

recreational drumming for years, it’s been growing and now more and more of these clinics are popping up across the States,” he said. “Guitar Center has had it in their stores for some time now and they have brought in people who aren’t musicians and who wouldn’t otherwise have gone into an MI store. “It’s a great way of getting the local

community engaging with the retailer. Now, many want to learn an instrument and, because they made the effort, they will shop in that store rather than online.” EMD: 01293 862612
