The SI-21 is a modern-styled guitar with a twin-cutaway ash body, a hard maple neck and looks that belie the staggering £129 suggested retail price. Being from Intermusic, dealers can be sure that margins are of the essence and indie dealers are to the fore.

Peavey HP Special EX £299
This flat-topped basswood bodied guitar with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard has a bit of everything going for it, with a Floyd Rose trem, Peavey custom humbuckers at the neck and bridge and a single coil between, there is a huge variety of tones available. A real player’s guitar.
guitar upgrade. An excellent example is the PE Deluxe, an L-type single cutaway that is as good as any on the market. A carved maple top and mahogany back is hooked to a maple set neck and a couple of Seymour Duncan HB-103 humbuckers. Moving away from the single cutaway and semi-acoustic offerings, Aria also has some great double cutaway models, such as the 714 Deluxe, a classically shaped, three-pickup (two Humbuckers and a central single coil – all from Seymour Duncan), Wilkinson hardware-fitted guitar made from alder with a quilted maple top and a bolt-on maple neck. For 45 years now, Peavey has been making some of the most popular – and accessible – rock n roll gear for the masses. In this sector, the HP series takes a lot of beating (see above) as does the (now classic) Predator, a guitar that comes in at just over 200 quid, but that

has a great spec list, as well as an extended cutaway to allow for even more access to the upper frets – a real head- turner for shredders. At less than 20 quid above £500 (thus with a street price below) the irresistible Jack Daniels EXP, a great-looking single cutaway with two Peavey humbuckers on a mahogany body, would be a cool guitar even without the Tennessee bourbon branding. With it, it becomes a way cool axe to sling at any gig.
IDOLS AND REVELATIONS The Washburn Idol body shape has two new takes on the classic single cutaway design. The new Idol offers traditional single cutaway configuration with two Duncan USM humbuckers, two volume and two tone controls. The Mighty Idol is a much more modern proposition, the smaller body has a tighter upper bout, 1
master volume and tone and coil tap switching offering a multitude of single coil and humbucking voicings. Both body shapes are available at four distinct price points, starting at £110. Sutherland has re-introduced their
Revelation brand to the UK market by using it to name a range of electric guitars that are clearly reminiscent of the most popular models on the market but sufficiently different not to cause problems for anyone. Revelation guitars are made from the finest materials and parts – Kluson or Grover tuners, Alan Entwhistle custom pickups and some with a body carved from solid mahogany. Entwhistle has had much input into the design, and also visits the Chinese factory during production and before shipping, to make sure that the quality was spot on. There are 12 guitars, three basses and
an electric mandolin in the range, in different colours and with retail prices ranging from £130 to £360. Complete details are on a leaflet and price list available from Sutherland.
