PMT: Best multiple retailer for the fifth year running

Sound 2007

The Post 2008 Barnes & Mullins picked up Best Supplier (medium) along with The Sound Post Ltd

Another successful firm in the contemporary category was Korg UK, winner of two awards: The Future Music Music Hardware of the Year prize for the Monotron and The Rhythm Percussion Product of the Year, which went to the Wavedrum. Completing this part of the ceremony

was Westside Distribution, which received the Guitar Techniques Acoustic Guitar of the Year for the Martin D-15M, Fender GBI, collecting the Guitarist Electric Guitar of the Year thanks to the Road Worn ‘72 Telecaster Deluxe and 2twenty2, which went away with The Computer Music Software of the Year title for Native Instruments Konplete 7.

WINNING TEAMS It was then time for the retailers to receive their recognition and not many in the room would have bet against one of the victors in this division – Professional Music Technology (PMT), which picked up the award for Best Retailer (multiple) for an incredible fifth time in a row. For the suppliers, it was Roland UK that took to the stage for the second time on the evening, deservedly victorious in the Best Supplier (Large) category. Another distributor to succeed on the

night was Barnes & Mullins, who came top in the MIA Best Supplier (medium) classification, which was sponsored by MI Pro, for the second year running. Brian Cleary, joint managing director of the company felt the firm’s ability to maintain the same level of excellence, despite the economic downturn of recent years. The volume of those who attended and

the evident feeling of positivity in the room was a case in point of the mindset of MI professionals, who are generally happy to look on the bright side during these troublesome times. According to the MIA’s CEO Paul

McManus, this year’s get-together was the largest yet and the feedback he received afterwards can be summarised as a ‘thumbs-up’ overall. “This was our biggest Awards evening to date and we were delighted with the levels of support from all parts of the industry,” commented McManus. “This year was important to us in that

it was the first event to donate proceeds to the Music for All charity and many thanks to everyone who bid on the auction items and made donations. “Many people have told me that this

was the best one so far and that we have now established a date in the diary each year when we can get together, dress up and celebrate our great industry.” The MIA Awards remains one of the most important events in the MI calendar and is still one of the first to be marked in the diaries of not just manufacturers and suppliers, but retailers too.

When taking the optimistic comments above into consideration, it looks set to continue to be one of an unfortunately low number of annual occasions that gets the trade together in one location and, for one evening at least, celebrate the positives of the past year and allows us to momentarily forget the negatives that have caused hardship for so many. MI Pro would like to congratulate all the winners on their successes.

Thank you! Best Medium Supplier
