RICHARD ARCHER, frontman with UK indie rock band Hard-Fi has invested in Thermionic Culture’s Phoenix compressor. Archer, who is the lead singer, guitarist, principal songwriter and composer for the band, decided to buy the Phoenix after seeing producer Andy Gray’s extensive use of the unit, while recording Hard-Fi’s latest album. “What struck me was how versatile it could be,” he noted. “Very transparent if needed, but you could also get really dirty when you wanted.” >

FOX SPORTS Mexico recently installed a comprehensive Riedel intercom infrastructure for its studio facility in Mexico City.
Riedel Communications delivered a multi-node Artist intercom system with VoIP connectivity to remote locations in the USA and Argentina. Comtelsat Mexico, Riedel’s partner in Mexico, was responsible for the installation. The installation features one Artist 64 and two Artist 32 mainframes, which are installed at the facility connecting various studios and the master control room. Networked via a redundant fiber ring, the three Artist mainframes operate as one
single non-blocking matrix. The Artist digital matrix intercom

COMPOSER JULIAN Scott used Metric Halo converters to record themes for the new Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi. The music wil be played in surround sound and synchronised to both the ride dynamics and the high- definition video replays. Scott recorded the pieces at Abbey Road studios, together with freelance engineer James Collins. Scott brought his own personal back-end equipment to the session: a Mac Book Pro loaded with Logic, two Metric Halo ULN-8s, and one Metric Halo 2882. >
