Brit Row to auction Pink Floyd’s quadraphonic consoles at Bonhams

Boards used on Momentary Lapse of Reason and Divison Bell world tours go under the hammer

FANS OF rock legends Pink Floyd will have the chance to own a slice of the band's live performance history when its hand-built quadraphonic mixing consoles go up for sale. The consoles, used on the Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell world tours will be auctioned at Bonhams in Knightsbridge on December 15th, with a percentage of the proceeds going to Stage Hands, the charity formerly known as the PSA Welfare & Benevolent Fund. The consoles are being sold by their

owner, Britannia Row Productions, the company originally formed and owned by Pink Floyd, although independent now for 26 years. Every Pink Floyd tour since the late

1960s featured quadraphonic sound among the many live sound and lighting effects pioneered by the band. Sound effects including helicopters, the famous chiming clocks and gongs

MPG appoints Nicky Graham and Blue Weaver as patrons

INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED record producers Nicky Graham (pictured) and Blue Weaver have been appointed as patrons of the Music Producers Guild (UK) in recognition of their services to the guild over many years. The invitation was extended at the MPG’s 2010 AGM, which took place at the Leicester Square Theatre in London. Nicky Graham, who currently

serves as a writer director on the PRS board, is a former chairman of the MPG and has produced many successful artists, including Bonnie and Bros, for whom he wrote numerous hits. Blue Weaver was previously a member of the MPG board but recently stood down, as he is no longer based in the UK. He has been associated with many bands including Amen Corner and the Bee Gees. He has also worked with artists such as Lou Reed and written songs for Barbra Streisand, Gladys Knight and many more. He now lives between London, Germany and

of Dark Side of the Moon were whirled around arenas and stadiums using banks of loudspeakers positioned in a diamond layout – one stack at the rear facing the desk, a stack to either side slightly behind FOH and the main PA handling the front point. The effects were sent to the speakers using one of the special hand-built quadraphonic mixing desks. "We have kept these mixing desks in

our stock and looked after them very carefully because of their historic place in the Pink Floyd performance legend," said Britannia Row Productions' Mike Lowe (pictured). "With the onslaught of digital

technology, the ways to deliver quadraphonic sound has radically improved and we felt the best outcome would be to offer them to collectors at auction and in the process make a donation to the Stage

LEE ENGINEERING has reported that, following a gruelling, two-year world tour with alternative rock band Placebo, the company has returned to its base with every single VDC cable, plug and multi pin line that it took out on the road. Ian Nelson, director at Lee Engineering and Placebo FOH engineer, commented: “In over 200 shows, with 56 lines running every night, in over 60 freight moves to more than 30 countries on every continent on the planet, and with the best part of 200 ins and 200 outs,

including at least 90 festivals, we didn’t lose one line. Not one mic cable, one XLR, one multi pin line. Nothing broke. It’s nothing short of astonishing. “When we came to pack away the

kit after the last date in Brixton, Brandon Reece and myself just looked at each other in disbelief. I can honestly say that I have never seen a line system go more than four or five weeks without a problem cropping up, let alone two years, and I’ve been in

this business for 15 years.” > vdctrading.com
