Nixon Hire puts security on Track

Newcastle-based Nixon Hire has teamed up with asset tracking specialist, Succorfish, to design an own-branded tracking system, Nixon Track. It uses a satellite network to provide real-time status reports on the location of equipment. Customers can view this information via any computer or internet-enabled mobile phone, and can also see historical route data, machinery speed and usage of equipment on-line.

The tracking devices mounted on the machines are shockproof and waterproof and they incorporate a tamper feature, which activates a battery powered back-up system to send an alert via email or text message. A geo-fencing setting also enables clients to determine boundaries that the equipment is not permitted to travel beyond.

Susan Taylor, Hire Systems Manager at Nixon Hire said, “Customers are increasingly faced with the challenge of monitoring hired equipment to comply with their insurance policies. Rather than employing costly site surveillance, they can now benefit from using our sophisticated tracking system.”

4Hire chooses Wacker Neuson minis

4Hire of Grouville, on the island of Jersey, has taken delivery of ten Wacker Neuson tracked and wheeled excavators ranging in size from 1.5 to 6 tonne. These include both standard and zero tailswing machines, as

well as a 2 tonne unit equipped with VDS, the manufacturer’s tilting cab option which enables vertical digging on sloping ground. Established in 2008, 4Hire has grown rapidly to become the only locally owned major plant hire company on Jersey. It was set up because its sister contracting company was finding it increasingly difficult to find a reliable source of hire machines on the island. “We have had experience with Wacker Neuson equipment since 2001”, said Director Nigel Blandin, “and if these latest machines live up to our expectations, I plan to eventually switch the entire excavator fleet over to Wacker Neuson products, in line with our policy of working with a limited number of suppliers. We could buy cheaper machines, but I would not have confidence in their ability to cope with the tough digging conditions often found here on Jersey.”

PSE Expo dates

Next year’s PSE Expo, organised by Portable Sanitation Europe, will take place on 23 and 24 February at the Norbreck Castle Conference and Exhibition Centre in Blackpool. It will be first time that the event has been held entirely indoors and under one roof. Various seminars will be held during the Expo, which will be open to both PSE members and non-members.
