SALTEX REVIEW continued

Midland Power gets Active

Midland Power Machinery unveiled the Active range of garden and grounds care equipment. Made in Italy, the line-up includes items such as rotary lawnmowers, brushcutters and hedge trimmers, and the company says that their rugged

build quality makes them suitable for hire fleet usage. The Active range also includes the very versatile Evolution Multipurpose system, whereby the shafts of the hand-held equipment can be extended to virtually any required length by adding combinations of 500mm and 750mm extension rods. “This gives a remarkably compact, multi-use product that fits easily into a car boot, since the basic shaft of the system is much shorter than those on some other telescopic products,” said National Sales Manager John McGhee (pictured). “The heads are also interchangeable, so one tool can be used for many tasks.”

Shown in prototype format to gauge feedback at last year’s Saltex, Timberwolf’s TW 350DHB(t) model is now in full production. Designed to cope with the most demanding wood chipping applications, yet surprisingly compact, it has a 250kg twin disc rotor to generate considerable inertia, and a 360° slew ring turntable enables safe operation in challenging work environments like slopes. A letterbox

style feed intake gives an opening of 350 by 230mm to minimise material preparation. A new auto- feed system is also incorporated,

allowing the infeed rollers to sense awkwardly shaped wood and to reverse automatically before re-feeding it, enhancing efficiency without operator intervention. A Hatz 64hp ‘silent pack’ diesel engine is fitted, and the machine can process up to 12 tonnes of material per hour.

Avant shows new attachments

Avant Tecno displayed two new attachments for its 420 compact loader. The diesel powered articulated machine, which weighs 980kg, can now be used with a CS 100TMP wood chipper attachment produced by GreenMech. The hydraulically powered implement has a 100mm capacity, weighs 195kg and has a wide in-feed chute with a throat size of 315mm x 162mm. Also displayed was a larger EC150TMP hydraulic drive GreenMech chipper for use on Avant’s 500 and 600 series loaders. This implement weighs 490kg and has a 150mm chipping capability. Also new is the Gyru-Star 3-80 compact screening bucket, being developed by Wheatway Solutions Ltd of Gloucester. Fitted with flexible, self-cleaning polyurethane ‘stars’, it is suitable for use with compact machines like the Avant 420 and 3 tonne class mini excavators.

Better known in the grounds care market for its earth drills and Auto-Roller cricket pitch rollers, Wiltshire-based Autoguide has diversified with a new vibratory post hole driver. It was regularly demonstrated at Saltex on a Wacker Neuson 2404 mini excavator. Autoguide MD Richard Robinson says the main feature of the attachment is its twin shaft vibrator with two eccentric masses. Utilising a specially machined casing, the lightweight vibrator unit directs energy downwards onto the fence post it is driving. Two models are offered. The smaller MPM1 is for use on mini

excavators of 1.3 to 2.0 tonne, while the MPM2 fits

1.7 to 3.0 tonne machines and has a hydraulic clamp to

securely hold the post being driven. Both

attachments require a double-acting hydraulic circuit with a flow rate of 30-45 litres/minute at 200 bar. They can be used for both driving and extracting fence posts of approximately 15cm diameter, and are said to be quicker and more accurate than using a falling weight post driver.
