Following its recent acquisition of Sandhurst Manufacturing Ltd (SMC), ArcGen Hilta has expanded its lighting portfolio with the addition of the SMC TL90 mobile lighting tower. Approved by Network Rail, it has four 1000W metal halide lamps and the 360º rotating mast can be fully retracted for transport and storage. The 130-litre tank gives up to 85 hours of

continuous operation, and the machine’s compact design allows multiple units to be transported together, which reduces costs, and also helps in disaster recovery situations where significant quantities of lighting equipment are needed urgently. The TL90 is designed to

give operators easy access for routine maintenance, and safety features include an emergency stop that disconnects all electrical circuits and shuts down instantly, as well as a mast deployment alarm and a safety system with handbrake so that the mast can descend automatically. The machine can also be configured to incorporate security cameras. Also available in ArcGen Hilta’s portfolio is the Vertitower, typical applications for which include illuminating construction sites and large

warehouses. It has four 1000W metal halide lamps and the mast retracts for transportation and storage. The compact machine has a 110V auxiliary power unit, with the supply available through two 16A sockets that are protected by overload trips and a separate earth leakage breaker. This enables the Vertitower to be used as a generator for on-site power tools or other lighting equipment.

The Hire Supply Company (HSC) is encouraging customers to stock up with products from its Elite range this winter, following the launch of new eye-catching packaging for its lighting and heating line-up. Sales Director Dan Musson states that “the new-look packaging is like the products inside, being tough, built for hire, and will look great in a hirer’s retail area.” This season will see the 27W E-lite lighting being replaced by 36W versions, which

give a significant increase in light output. HSC says that these energy efficient products have become a core line-up, with demand steadily increasing as hirers and their customers work hard to reduce their carbon footprint. Also available is the Elite range of fluorescent portable lighting and Elite tungsten halogen lights. HSC’s winter selection also includes its core range of Elite industrial and commercial

electric heaters, along with an enhanced line-up of Master heaters that includes propane and oil-fired diesel units, plus a comprehensive range of domestic, commercial and industrial dehumidifiers.

Following its joint venture agreement with Taylor Construction Plant, the Youngman Group offers the Ecolite range of lighting towers that incorporate ceramic discharge metal halide lighting technology. This reduces energy consumption to 150W per lamp instead of the more typical 1000W, the company says. The lamps are also designed to

provide a light with higher definition, clarity and colour rendition and, through the use of a patented prismatic lens, 85% of the flicker-free light is directed to the work area. With only 600W being required for a typical 4-lamp Ecolite tower, a small fuel-efficient Hatz engine is fitted, which uses fuel at a rate of only 0.5 litre/hour. This allows the machine to run for over 170 hours on a single tank of diesel and enables considerable fuel savings to be achieved. A dusk-till-dawn automatic switching system can also be incorporated.
