UK debut for dedicated Boxer trencher

The Saltex display from Boxer Power & Equipment, which took over UK distribution of the North American Boxer mini tracked loaders earlier this year, included the Boxer 118 dedicated trencher, being shown in the UK for the first time, and a new cold planer attachment.

ePower Trucks shows electric pick-up

A pre-production road-legal electric pick-up truck from Italy aroused attention on the ePower Trucks stand. Being developed by Alke of Padova, the short wheelbase XT320E is the first of a range of XT electric vehicles set to go into series production in December. The standard 3.5 tonne GVW XT320E electric LCV (light commercial vehicle) can travel 60 miles on a full charge of its 13kWH battery pack and can carry 1000kg. The lead battery, which has been adapted from successful military use, is maintenance-free and provides a top speed of 37.5mph. It is claimed that one person using a pallet truck can swap battery packs in less than three minutes. The vehicle will be offered with the option of a double battery pack, increasing its range to 120 miles, with payload reduced to 670kg within the GVW of 3.5 tonne. ePower Trucks will supply standard and long wheelbase versions of both the 2WD XT320 and the 4WD XT420E. The all-wheel drive version has potential for use with a snowplough. Body options will include a 1000kg-payload rear tipper.

The operation was formed by Directors Cliff Perks and Robin Longdin to sell and support the machines, building on those previously sold in the UK by GreenMech and E.P. Barrus. The business moved into new premises at Tetbury during July and, while it will run a small hire fleet within Gloucestershire, it aims to sell Boxers to other hirers throughout the UK.

The 118 is a stand-on-the-back rubber tracked machine that is 890mm wide.

Powered by an 18hp Kohler Command petrol engine, it weighs 740kg when fitted with a 610mm boom that digs down to 610mm, or 750kg with a longer boom that excavates to 914mm. The new planer is based on a design by Robin Disney and is being made by a company in Bournemouth. Suitable for use on the Boxer 322D, 425D or 532DX tracked loaders, it has a cutting width of 305mm and a maximum cutting depth of 80mm. It weighs approximately 250kg and requires a flow rate of 47 litres/minute.
