The concept is simple: a business lunch for two professionals. But the twist, the interesting part, is that it’s blind. The technical term that we have coined for this social experiment is micro networking.
So, two willing volunteers who are confident enough to take a risk on the chance of business benefit step alone into Bem Brasil and wait to see who will join them for their lunch break...
This month we have Andy, who owns his own gallery in the Northern Quarter, Manchester Photograhic, and Sam who runs her own PR company. The chosen ‘2 Do Lunch’ venue: Bem Brasil, Deansgate, Manchester. Let’s see how they got on…
THE LUNCH
What was the atmosphere like? I found there was a relaxed atmosphere, and we enjoyed a helpful and polite service. There was a fast and efficient service on all the meats that came to our table in quick succession!
How was the service? The service was great. The waiters were really friendly and helpful.
LUNCH PARTNER
First impressions: I don’t remember having this; we were straight into conversation before I had time for a first impression. I really enjoyed the company though and learnt a lot about Andy, he was very open and amusing!
Did you have much in common?
Our personalities mixed well as we are both very ‘open’ as people and take an interest in others. We seemed to have a similar sense of humour and many ‘thoughts on life’ were similar.
We didn’t finish our lunch and part; he actually took me to see his art gallery - it’s a fabulous place, with amazing pictures.
I have lots to talk to Andy about when he returns from France. He even gave me a lift to my car…What a gentleman!
Would you recommend 2 do lunch? Definitely. For me, it was a really fun and enjoyable experience and I have found a person I will stay in contact with after meeting in this way.
How was the conversation? Free flowing or any awkward silences?
Non stop conversation, it was very free flowing. There was probably not one topic of conversation that wasn’t touched upon.
What did you talk about? What didn’t we talk about?!
Work, life, travelling, Manchester, art, people, experiences, our work and personal backgrounds... plenty of subjects actually - too many to re-count!
I found Andy very easy and enjoyable company and I also learnt plenty.
Do you think there is a chance you will work together in the future? Yes we are staying in contact. He left to go to France that afternoon but we have planned to meet up after he is back.
What was your lasting impression?
Andy is a friendly, open person and great company. He is an easy person to socialise with on any level AND a gentleman.
