Christian v. Elverfeldt Open to Question
from seven to 83 years. With our experience in the market and a fantastic team of engineers we will continuously come up with some great rides. Another big advantage we have compared to our competitors is the fact that we always cultivate the exchange with Europa Park in ride ideas and ride design.
IP: How difficult, or easy, is it for manufacturers such as Mack to continually come up with new ride designs and ideas? CvE: We continuously observe the market and are looking at the visitors to theme parks to see what the next trend will be. But as always our most important guideline is to keep the family together so that they can enjoy their time on our rides as a group. Having fun together has much more value than separating the family at each ride. Our new mega coaster trains prove us right when looking at the age of our riders
Personally speaking
Not a lot of people know this but I am very good at … listening to other people
The best thing my parents taught me was … thirst for knowledge, respect for others, self-confidence and reliability
The most interesting place I’ve ever been too is … the city of Rome
If I could be anyone else for 24 hours I’d be … our former chancellor Konrad Adenauer (who brought Germany back to the community of states after years of dictatorship and terror).
I always laugh at … all kinds of good jokes, which I unfortunately later never remember
My favourite musician/band is … still the ones I loved in earlier days, like Manfred Mann´s Earth Band, the Stones, the Doors and more
To really chill out I … go hunting with my sons I really dislike … people being unfriendly with waitresses or waiters If I could, I would … do more together with my family
IP:What effects are you seeing the current global economic climate having on the parks and attractions industry? CvE: Speaking with the background of being a supplier as well as having a good view into the business of an operator, we are certain that a decreasing economic activity is establishing the basis of growth in the leisure industry. People are looking for distraction and where else as in an artificial world can this be experienced better. We provide challenges to the visitors that look scary and you might have a lot of respect for those twists and turns, but in the end everyone visits the parks with a big smile. And this smile is getting more and more important in such an economic climate.
IP: What parts of the world would you say are particularly active at the present time with new developments, i.e. completely new parks or investment in new rides, attractions and facilities at existing parks? CvE: We especially register a big increase in the markets of China and Russia. As many regions in China have made tourism one of their pillar industries, it’s for sure that an increase in consumer spending will also pave the way for the leisure park industry. Another market that has a lot of potential at the moment is the Latin American market where some great projects are currently being realised. But I also believe that the existing parks in Europe and America will go on investing in new rides to keep their businesses running and growing.
IP: How do you see Mack Rides developing in the future? CvE: I think Mack Rides is set up very well for future markets. With our new mega coaster line, the Twist ‘n’ Splash and many further attractions we stay true to our company principles of providing rides for the whole family. In the future we are sure to provide a lot of fun rides to the industry with a continuous improving of our products. Maintaining a high quality with the seal “Made in Germany” we will certainly increase our share in the market and a lot of great rides will be set up in the future.
