Sim Leisure

Sim embarks on two- pronged expansion initiative

STRATEGICALLY located on Malaysia’s western seaboard, the giant Sim Leisure Consultants has been concentrating its business focus on the Middle and Far East, and the group has also started to enter the Australasian market. As these regions continue to grow as key world leisure

destinations, Sim has been able to leverage its intimate knowledge of leisure parks and related resorts and the company now provides turnkey services for the waterpark and theme park industry. Speaking exclusively to InterPark, managing director

Sim Choo Kheng said: “We are very fortunate to have not experienced any significant downturn in business given the current economic conditions. I think the fact that we were working on some larger developments that were not affected by the crisis at the time helped us to maintain the status quo and also our core business of tailoring each project service to as much or as little as each client requires meant that even those companies that were affected, still retained our services, only in some cases to a lesser degree than initially planned. “On the other end of the scale, as we can offer turnkey

services, we have found many clients prefer this in the current economic situation as we can offer them a more budget conscious solution with controlled costs and constant feedback/continuity which leads to less project costs overall.” Being based in Malaysia, Sim has built up a reputation as

being a quality provider of services and solutions to theme park operators in developing markets. The group recently completed the development of an indoor waterpark in the Middle East, as well as management of an outdoor facility in the region that the company designed and project managed four years ago.

38 “Theming work at the new Universal Theme Park in

Singapore has also just been wrapped up,” Kheng said. “We have a number of other start-up projects in the Middle East region currently in the initial phases, including our Signature Homes division which specialises in themed private residences, and we also have some dry/wet park and integrated resorts in the conceptual design phase in various locations.” Looking ahead, the Sim team is excited to be launching

soon its “Ecofun” concept, which will see the development of integrated resorts themed to each location’s local landscape and culture. The resorts will offer “active participation” facilities in a conscious effort to steer away from the highly mechanised and technological theme parks that are in the market at the moment. “These resorts will include accommodation where guests

can accrue ‘green credits’ and all elements of each resort will be designed to complement each other,” Kheng stated. “In addition to this, we look forward to continuing with our core business of creating new standards and innovations in the leisure and theming industry and making sure each and every client’s dreams come true - whatever and wherever they may be.”
