there was just time to watch sunset over the Red Centre as we passed through the desert and into the night. Dinner in the Queen Adelaide restaurant was a feast of fresh Aussie fare, followed by a nigwhtcap in the bar. Next day, a four-hour stopover provided the opportunity to visit Katherine Gorge or the Flying Doctor centre. Rejoining the train for a light lunch we admired a landscape transformed from yesterday’s desert to lush greenery. Arrival in Darwin was at 1830 for transfer to the hotel – a memorable way to travel between Northern Territory’s two main gateways.”
