Square Enix is tempting the franchise’s most die hard fans by releasing a Final Fantasy XIV: Limited Collector’s Editionthat will go on sale eight days before the standard edition is released. The Limited Collector’s Editionwill


come packed with a range of exclusives. There is a behind-the- scenes DVD, containing interviews, exclusive video content on the making of the game and a cover illustrated by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano. There will be a detailed map of


heavy influences on your character’s growth. For example, choosing a hammer will push your character towards a blacksmith career. Other discipline classes will include a choice of war, magic, land or hand.


The game boasts more flexibility in customising your player than previous entries in the franchise, with everything from the face and hair being completely in the gamer’s control. Alongside this, there are five races to choose from, each complete with differing character physicalities and personality traits. The Elezens are elf-like people; the Hyurs bear a strong resemblance to humans; whilst the Lalafell race are Eorzea’s answer to Bill Oddie as the small intelligent agriculturalist creatures of the game. The Roegadyns are muscular, courageous maritime people, whilst the Miqo’te species are a cat like female race.


Fans of the series will also be pleased to know the Chocobos will make a


return, but will take on a different role to that which they have previously played in the franchise.


MASS MARKETING


Square Enix plans a dedicated marketing campaign in an attempt to ensure the continuing success of the franchise. It is working with various online partners to promote stages of the Beta test as well as promoting the game through site advertising and takeovers. Eurogamer and MMORPG forum


Curse have pushed up beta signs and both will be giving away keys to fans this month. The campaign will also branch out to all relevant MMO and gaming sites with high profile activity. This online campaign will be supported by print activity across popular specialist magazines PC Gamer, PC Format and SFX. cinematic and stunning as anything seen before in the Final Fantasy universe. With its new focus as an MMO, Final Fantasy XIV looks to surpass the online triumphs of FFXI and position itself as one of the most anticipated games in the genre. The Limited Collector’s Edition of Final Fantasy XIV will be released on the PC on September 22nd, with the Standard Edition arriving on September 30th. The subscription fee is £8.99 per 30 days and the game will be available in several languages including Japanese, English, French and German.


Eorzea, a travel journal filled with previously unseen concept art, a Final Fantasy XIVsecurity token that can be used with gamers’ regular password as well as a special branded tumbler. Customers will also get 30 days of trial gameplay and a guest pass, which will allow players to invite a friend to play for free for a limited time. And for eager fans who pre- order the Collector’s Edition, a reward code will allow players to receive an exclusive in-game item: The Onion Helm.
