Bethesda reports unprecedented early interest in newest post-apocalyptic RPG Game due October 22nd by James Batchelor
PRE-ORDERS for Fallout: New Vegas have already surpassed those of Fallout 3. That’s according to the
game’s publisher Bethesda, which is confident that the new RPG will top the success of its best-selling predecessor. Fallout 3 was released to critical and commercial acclaim in October 2008, and quickly outsold all previous Fallout titles combined. It also won the Sales Triumph prize in the 2009 MCV Industry Excellence Awards.

THOUSANDS of gamers are expected to take part in Multiplay’s upcoming insomnia40 event. The i-Series is a long- running string of LAN parties where gamers come together to compete in a variety of tournaments. The 40th iteration will take place from August 27th to
August 30th at Newbury Racecourse, and is expected to be the biggest in its history. “Multiplay’s i-Series will
reach a milestone this summer in the form of i40 – one of our biggest gaming events to date,” said Multiplay’s MD Craig Fletcher. “The event will build on the success of i39 back in April,
experience a new story in an exciting New Vegas setting.” Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It was announced last year and has already received positive coverage across the global gaming media.
Bethesda is also riding on a wave of strong feedback after New Vegas received a warm welcome at E3 in June.
i40 TO BE ‘UK’S BIGGEST GAMING EVENT’
Fallout: New Vegas arrives in October, with developer Obsidian even promising improvements over the 90+ Metacritic rated original
“We’ve been very happy with how Fallout: New Vegas showed at this year’s E3,” said Seaby. “Retailers were impressed with what they saw and we received numerous awards and nominations from a variety of media outlets, including IGN’s Best RPG Award.
“While players will find Fallout: New Vegas very
familiar due to the similar control scheme found in Fallout 3, they’ll also find that the developers over at Obsidian have made a number of refinements after taking a look at fan feedback. “We’re looking forward to when the game launches across Europe on October 22nd.” Bethesda: 020 7025 7360
Square aims to grow Front Mission franchise
which saw over 100,000 gamers involved, either through their presence at the event or through the online coverage. “This included 20,000
people tuned into the live streams alone, something which greatly helped promote the whole host of sponsors that were involved in the event.” Multiplay: 0845 868 1337
A CONFIDENT Square Enix reckons its mech fighting series Front Mission can find a wider audience in the West. Traditionally, the 15-year-old Japanese franchise has been targeted at just core
gamers. But Square believes the newest title, Evolved, will break another of its
IPs into the US and Europe. “The Front Mission franchise is already hugely popular in Japan,” said Square
Enix’s senior product manager Paul Benjamin. “Front Mission Evolved will take it to a wider gaming audience and firmly introduce it to the Western markets.” Front Mission Evolved, released on September 17th, is the first title in the series for Xbox 360 and PS3. It also switches the action to third-person. “This will help the title appeal to new audiences and introduce the series to the Western markets,” said Benjamin. Square Enix: 020 8636 3000
