Capcom revisits its ultimate zombie horror, giving players more ways than ever to tussle with the undead...

EVERYBODY loves zombies, right? The brain-eating freaks of our childhood nightmares have spilled out from the typical horror games and into the likes of Call of Duty, Borderlands and Red Dead Redemption’s DLC. They even trigger all-too-serious water cooler discussions about how each of us would survive a zombie apocalypse. But the one thing the undead really excel at is dying – preferably in the most gory and humiliating way possible. Capcom’s 2007 hit Dead


Rising tapped directly into that as it left players to fend for themselves against a zombie army in a typical American shopping mall. Rather than forcing them through linear chapters against strategically-placed enemies like other horror games, Dead Rising for the


first time gave gamers an open world and a seemingly infinite number of walking cadavers to contend with. The true key to the game’s success, though, was that it allowed players to use anything at their disposal to take out their foes. Absolutely anything: from the usual mix of guns and sporting equipment to petrol-driven lawnmowers and nearby furniture. It was a hugely
