leads to an office with a private full bath that can also convert to a bedroom, allowing full use of the space both night and day. An important part of good design is achieving a balance between

different colors and textures. The design team accomplished this by using contrasting pairings of light and dark colors; most visible in the sofas and larger tables. The finishes used extensively on the walls and some surfaces add to the richness and warmth of the cabin. Clients can specify the color combinations and furnishings, making each A318 Elite a unique reflection of its owner. Attention to detail is also essential to good design. An example of

this is the table lamps place throughout the cabin that features a square lampshade with a chrome or brass base. Lufthansa Technik’s design- ers went through approximately 14 prototypes before the design team deemed it suitable. If the best test of a design is how it works in real life, then the A318

Elite is already an established success. Airbus delivered the first com- pleted A318 Elite to Swiss VVIP charter operator Comlux. In the first year alone, Comlux flew more than 1,200 hours of VVIP charters. Many of these flights were longer than Comlux had anticipated, with routes from Europe to Africa, Asia and North America. “When you are in the business of providing comfort and space to a discerning clentele, you want the best in the business to provide it, which is what we now have with the Airbus A318 Elite,” says Comlux President and CEO Ettore Rodaro. “We were delighted to be the first to introduce these new standards to corporate jet travelers.” Since its introduction, other VIP charters, such as Globaljet in Europe, BAA Jet Management in Hong Kong and Al Jaber Aviation in the Middle East have also en- joyed success with the A318 Elite. Lufthansa Technik initially outfitted VIP A318 Elite cabins at its

VIP and Executive Jets completion center in Hamburg, Germany, but is now carrying out this work through its subsidiary BizJet in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Airbus strictly monitors all suppliers to make sure they are in compliance with all regulatory guidelines, striving to become more eco-efficient in the air. The company signed on with the 2020 Ad- visory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) who’s vision includes a 50 percent reduction in noise and carbon dioxide emissions, an 80 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions and a green product life cycle. The feature-rich Airbus A318 Elite represents the culmination of extensive research, careful planning and fine design. Even though it is the smallest member of the family, this jet packs a powerful punch and succeeds in providing the comforts and amenities of the home and office at 40,000 feet.
