In The Biz SAS Yachts – also known as
Sailboats at Shilshole – serving the boating community since 1983, announced that it is changing its name to Seattle Yachts, effective August 1. The goal of the new name is to better reflect the changes underway including the company’s new ownership and its new agency agreements with Northwest Trawlers and Island Gypsy trawlers. SAS Yachts was purchased in
January by Ted Griffin and Ed Scripps. Griffin is no newcomer to the industry or the business. A lifelong boater and U.S. Coast Guard licensed 100 ton Master, Griffin has lived and sailed in the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific coasts in addition to Puget Sound. He had been a broker at SAS Yachts for two years, when the opportunity to buy the business presented itself. Co-owner Scripps is also a lifelong
boater who grew up on the eastern seaboard boating with his father, an avid boater. Scripps moved to the Pacific Northwest more than 15 years ago and has owned a variety of power and sailboats. After retiring from the media business Scripps decided to follow his love of boating into a yacht brokerage business. To serve the crossover boater, Seattle
Yachts chose to represent Northwest Trawlers and Island Gypsy trawlers and now is the exclusive Pacific Northwest agent for both. With the new name, expansion and
new boat lines, new faces have joined the team to provide expanded knowledge and geographic reach. The new team members are: Paris Woodard joins the Seattle
(Shilshole Bay Marina) office. Woodard, a Pacific Northwest native was five when he first experienced the magic of the San Juans and got hooked on boating. He has continued to boat ever since and he and his wife have cruised extensively locally and in Canada. They currently live aboard a 50' pilot house motoryacht. Woodard is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) and has been helping clients live their boating dreams for seven years. Don Wood joins the brokerage as
‘broker-at-large’ in Gig Harbor and Tacoma. Wood is a retired pilot currently sailing his S2 out of Gig Harbor. In
