Wooden Boat Foundation are now fully operational in the heart of downtown Port Townsend and adjacent to Point Hudson. Twice as many educational programs and hands-on demonstrations are at the Festival and top quality year round maritime programs are expanding this summer and in 2011. Port Townsend is a year round
place for all things wooden boat, for sure, but it’s also a must-stop for cruisers, fishermen, racers, rowers and travelers from around the world. With two marinas, walkable access to just about anything you need for a boatyard project and a town full of boating adventurers and builders in all aspects of boating, “PT” is synonymous with boats. Wooden Boat Festival is the grand event of this waterfront town and now ranks as one of the top three events of its kind in the world! At this year ’s
Wooden Boat Festival, we’re taking our role as the world’s most educational wooden boat event to a whole new level. Our two new buildings allow us to double the number of free (with your admission wrist band) indoor lectures and demonstrations. All the fun outdoor stages and activities will carry on as usual, but in case you want to get out of the sun (we hope), rain (we tolerate) and wind (we find hard to complain about as sailors)... you’ll have more options
than ever! Presenters range from local experts
and businesses of international reputation to out-of-town experts representing some of the best and most unique boatbuilding, sailing, rowing and educational options in North America. Watch the website when specific speakers and topics will start to be posted weekly or follow us on Facebook for daily news. More than 300 boats are available to
go aboard. So far this year’s fleet includes “tallship” schooners Adventuress (recent winner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Grant), Alcyone, Lady Hawke, Martha, Merrie Ellen, Mycia, Odyssey, Suva and Zodiac. A broad array of “smallships” including sail, power and rowing vessels f rom the mos t traditional viking designs to classics from the 30s-50s to more modern edgy designs featuring the latest and sometimes most controversial of building materials,
coatings, power source and structure. Five indoor venues, three outdoor
venues and a non-stop tour of boats guarantees that no one in the family will run out of things to do or to learn. Excellent music, food and libation round out the atmosphere in what is long considered the “woodstock of woodenboats.” For more information and tickets
