director of Triflex, asserts that the firm ‘has a proven track record in successfully overlaying existing

failed asphalt substrates, is the market leader, and that Triflex has installed in excess of one million square metres in the UK over the course of the last 25 years.’ Mr Saxton also recommended that any client seeking to find a solution for asphalt overlay fully investigates the credentials and the track record of the company providing the solution, as there have been instances of failure due to incompatibility with asphalt.

It is no coincidence, he says, that Triflex waterproofing and surfacing membranes have been used on car parks that have been category winners at the British Parking Awards in six out of the last seven years. In 2010 Woking Borough Council’s refurbishment of its shoppers’ car park facility won the Reinventing the Car Park Award. Tese include low ceiling heights, surface mounted services and other obstructions associated with the building’s fire strategy and numerous structural columns. Alpha Parking carried out the project in three

phases to enable the works to be carried out without closing the car park and in accordance with budgeting requirements. Phase one involved conducting a health check

to highlight areas of the car park that needed improvement including way-finding and signage, lighting, health and safety, security, refurbishment, and the related costs. Phase two consisted of devising a design for new

road surface markings and signage to improve health and safety within the car park, including

emergency exit signage, pedestrian and vehicle way- finding, marked disabled bays, electric vehicle bays and charge points, designated motorbike and bicycle parking areas, and a pedestrian walkway. Phase three involved providing a design for

signage and markings within and outside the car park to draw attention to car park entrances, exits and parking locations. Alpha Parking also provided recommendations on best practice to improve the health and safety of the pedestrian stairwells. Contractors and suppliers may be wondering
