NEWS BPA FOCUS Scaling new heights

BPA membership and events manager Alison Tooze is embarking on the biggest challenge of her life. In October she will be travelling to Africa to attempt the 5,896-metre climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Scope, the charity for people with cerebral palsy. Alison will be joining fellow team members from across the UK to follow in the footsteps of celebrities, including Cheryl Cole and Chris Moyles, who famously undertook the same challenge in 2009. Alison said: ‘I am very

stage. I have pledged to raise at least £3,200 for Scope, which feels almost as daunting as climbing the mountain! ‘T is reminds me how

excited about taking on this challenge but at the same time I am certainly not underestimating how hard it is going to be, so I will be training hard to get myself as fi t as possible over the next few months. I also know fi tness is no cure for altitude sickness, which is probably one of my greatest concerns at this

lucky I am. For people living with cerebral palsy life can feel like a continuous uphill struggle unless they have access to support services and someone fi ghting their corner for them. Scope is an incredibly worthwhile cause, and I want to support their work as cerebral palsy has aff ected the lives of two of my friends whose children were born with the condition.’

NEW FACE AT THE HELM

Sharp-eyed readers of Parking News will have noticed that one name on the inside cover never changes. While editors, presidents, and even chief executives serve their term and move on, the name of Alan Clark has been involved with the magazine since 1999. Following his

appointment as Chair of the Bailiff and Enforcement Special Interest Group, Alan has decided it is time for him to step down as Chair of the Communication and Marketing Advisory Panel.

Any member operator of the BPA involved in enforcement services on private land, or unregulated public car parks, is required to join the scheme and be independently audited. Andrew White, Insight’s chief executive, said: ‘We are

delighted to have been chosen by the British Parking Association as its sole accredited assessor. With nearly 40 years auditing and certifi cation experience through our National Security Inspectorate (NSI) security and fi re division, we are well placed to carry out the BPA’s compliance and audit process. The circulation is now formally audited and Parking News is now a highly respected and widely known publication, with its credibility cemented after featuring in a guest slot on Have I Got News for You in 2002! Continuous improvement in compilation, printing, and distribution has enabled Parking News to withstand the downturn better than many other publications.

It is appropriate, therefore, to place on record our gratitude for the effort and imagination that Alan has put into making Parking News what it is today, and to wish him as much success in his new area.
