Step 3 In this step, I have completed the top of the guitar by first masking it the same way as in step 2. Once the string adjust- ers were masked with Frisket, I sprayed a transparent base of ComArt Sienna Brown. I then misted some Burnt Sienna over top to create a little more depth. To help bring the highlights out in the top of the guitar I Used Cadmiun Yellow. There were several small details that needed to be painted before moving ahead. I mixed some ComArt Opaque White with transparent black in about a 4 to 1 ratio. Using a fine brush, I rendered all of the areas that were to be gray including the frets on the neck. Follow your reference closely at this point it can be tempting to overlook certain details. Once this step was completed, I used some Frisket film to mask the body of the guitar.

Step 4 Once the body of the guitar was masked I mixed some Pthalo Blue, Violet, and Emerald Green to create my base color. I was sure to lightly spray this mixture at first to built up the tones slowly. Near the bottom of the guitar I blocked in a darker plane; I had to be mindful of the different planes in order to achieve a more convincing effect. The dark and light shades you see gave me a tonal scale to build on while I was painting. Be sure to mask any areas that have been painted already. Overspray may not be your friend at this stage in the painting.

Step 5 At this point we can see the body of the guitar taking shape. The values have been established with our base mixture from the previous step. Once this has been completed, mist some violet over the lighter areas. This will enhance the color field and create a little more depth. You can use either a loose mask or low tack Frisket film to create the various planes in the guitars body. Just be sure to layer the color by misting instead of pulling the trigger back all the way. This will give you more control over your tones and shadows.
