Artist Profile Adrian Cook
California born and raised, Adrian Cook works as an art coordinator and production associate for an animated tele- vision show. Soon to receive his Associates of Art at Los Angeles Mission College, he majored in graphic design at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California and commer- cial art at Pierce College and West Valley Community Cen- ter also in Woodland Hills. Adrian Cook is also an airbrush artist.
“I’ve been using the airbrush for about 11 years...I remem- ber visiting at my parents’ home, my mother had just come home from the Aaron Brothers’ art store where she had pur- chased an airbrush, paints and propellant for some project she had been working on. It was the first time I had actually seen an airbrush up close and of course, I had to try it. I had no clue as to how to use it but was still immediately hooked. Curious and determined with wanting to learn how to use the airbrush, that’s how I got started.”
“Soon after being introduced to airbrushing, I bought my first airbrush, a Paasche-h (single action). I actually took one lesson which cost me $25.00 for one hour.” It was the opinion of the gentleman teaching that lesson that if Adrian really wanted to learn how to use the airbrush he would need a double action. “Although I did take one lesson, I am completely self taught.” Adrian utilized sources such as magazines and airbrush shows, which he attended religiously, to influ- ence his “quest to be a better airbrush artist”.
