Hi everyone, welcome to this installment of Ask Jammer. Spring is on the way and this means, for some people, its back to airbrushing at the flea market and or other outdoor events. This time of year, people are looking for gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. If you have a set up some- where, a store, or maybe you just want to make something nice for your mother, having some “Mom” designs is a must. This issue I’m going to do an easy “Mom” design that you can add to your designs. This can be used for Grand mothers and fathers or even for Dad by adding dif-
ferent words to it. This is a variation of a design that has been around for a long time. I made some modifications to it and it sells great this time of year, as well as all year round for birthday gifts. You can make stencils for this or you can not freehand it, it’s up to you and your skill level. I decided to show you this design using stencils. You will need two, a large and a small heart, that’s it! I know you all know how to make a heart, so I won’t include a picture of the stencils. Let’s get started!
Step#1: I’m doing this design on dis- play pellon, but if you’re doing it on a shirt, stretch your shirt over a shirt board and hold the sleeves back with some clothes pins. Spray the back of your stencil with some spray adhesive and place it at an angle on the upper left of your surface. Use your red and spray the inside of the heart leaving the center white for the next step.
Step#2: Now fill in the center with hot pink and go around the outer edge with your violet. Doing this makes your heart look more rounded and 3D. When you’re finished remove the stencil.
Step#4: Now add some clouds so your balloons look like they’re in the sky. I use dark blue and make half circle dagger strokes and con- nect them together. Make sure you are only about about 1Đ4 inch from the shirt, the closer you are the thin- ner and crisper the lines. Now lightly fill the inside of the clouds with the blue; move your airbrush away from the shirt two to three inches when doing this.
Step#3: In this step you want to do the same thing with the little hearts as you did with the large one. The thing with these hearts is you want to add as many as you need to, one for every child or grandchild the per- son has. This could be from one to as many as eleven; yes I have had to find room for 11 little hearts. The color of the hearts doesn’t matter, I usually ask the person if they know the kids favorite color and make their heart that color. If they don’t care I just make the boy’s heart boy colors, red, blue, green, and the girls hearts girl colors, pink, purple, red, you get the idea. After you make the hearts add little triangles at the bottom of the hearts. This will give the appear- ance of little balloon knots.
