NINTENDO, Activision, Tecmo Koei and Rising Star Games are thrilled following a blockbuster MCM Expo. Over 41,000 turned up to the comic, anime, video game and film event which took place at London Excel in May. “MCM is a fantastic way for us to speak to movie, comic and anime fans and give them a hands-on with some of our latest titles,” said head of communications for Nintendo UK Rob Saunders.

“This year it was great to see the world record for the world’s largest DS party broken at the Expo with almost 600 people coming together and playing Nintendo DS." Activision’s UK brand manager Natalie Giles added: “The MCM Expo provides a great opportunity to engage directly with consumers and we were pleased to hear so much positive feedback.”

Once again Tecmo Koei attended the show. The firm’s vice president of sales and marketing Will Curley said: “It was definitely the busiest one I have attended. We had queues three or four deep for our game pods which was impressive as we have over ten pods there. The momentum of the show is definitely building.”

lot of smiling faces playing those games.” The event’s organisers are now turning their attention to the Winter show which runs from October 29th to 31st. The first day will exclusively be for industry and press. MCM Expo marketing director Bryan Cooney said: "We are ecstatic at the turnout

Rising Star was also delighted by the number of attendees: “This May’s MCM Expo was incredibly successful for Rising Star,” said product manager Yen Hau. “We saw a massive amount of interest on our stand, particularly for No More Heroes 2 and Samurai Shodown Sen. There were a

MCV they expect the iPad to serve as a fourth pillar at the show, claiming the Apple device is going to be one to watch. “They are on a roll,” said Codemasters’ CEO Rod Cousens. “Apple is in the game and has momentum. In mobile and portable segments, they have made their presence felt – so how long will it be before they declare their true gaming ambitions?” MTV Games’ general manager and executive vice president Scott Guthrie added: “I think to dismiss Apple in entertainment would be a mistake. We are already there for both iPhone and iPad, and we believe that will continue to be an interesting proposition.” The iPad has sold more than two million units since launching in April in the US,

and has been selling just as well since its UK release on May 28th.

When unveiled in January, Apple pledged the device would have a strong games offering and leading brands such as Need For Speed, Mirror’s Edge and Sid Meier’s Revolution are already appearing on the App Store specifically tailored for iPad. “I think that it’s really a question of audiences that access games in new ways and it’s our responsibility as game developers to propose new and interesting games that are adapted for the hardware and the way that people are using it,” said Ubisoft’s UK marketing director Murray Pannell. “It’s a new business model but a model that is complementary to the traditional boxed games.”  Turn to page 20 for an in- depth look at the MCV iPad app, as well as the other industry apps available.
