UK SOFTWARE SALES MONITOR
Your weekly guide to the UK games software market…
The UK games market’s weekly value has fallen 12 per cent to £19.3 million, according to GfK Chart-Track. The total number of games sold last week dropped six per cent to 808,381.
A lack of new releases would have impacted the market value this week. Once again Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemptiondrove sales. The Wild West sandbox shooter secured its third consecutive weekly No.1 despite dropping 22 per cent in sales. The game is well ahead of second- placed FIFA World Cup 2010, which saw sales dip three per cent, and third-placed UFC 2010, which suffered a sales slide of 47 per cent.
Next week’s market data should make for better reading with the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2and Green Day: Rock Band.

ACTIVISION says its new Spider-Man title will answer the criticisms made by the firm’s outspoken CEO Bobby Kotick. The Activision boss said in January that recent Spider-Man games had ‘sucked’. But the publisher is confident that its latest Spider- Man title – Shattered Dimensions – won’t be lambasted for its quality this time around. “Shattered Dimensions is not shit,” associate producer Kevin Umbricht told MCV at a special Activision showcase. “The last few games have been seen as financial or critical disappointments. I don’t think that’s necessarily true, there are
a lot of hardcore fans that liked Web of Shadows. It depends on what type of player you are. “We are all trying to make a
great Spider-Man game, regardless of what the last ones were. We all have the same intentions so perhaps Bobby’s comments were a little harsh. “Shattered Dimensions appeals to a broad audience and adds a few layers we haven’t seen in past Spider-Man games.” Shattered Dimensions takes place across four Spider-Man universes, including the traditional setting, a noir world set in the 1940s and a futuristic zone. The game is due on 360, PS3, DS and Wii in Q3. Activision: 020 3060 1000
