The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is an internationally recognised qualification which is considered to be a passport to a successful management career.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

CHOOSING TO STUDY for a MBA is an important decision and selecting the right programme is crucial. Queen’s was one of the first universities in the UK to offer the MBA degree, with the initial cohort of students graduating almost 40 years ago. Queen’s University Management School has consistently been ranked in the top UK Business Schools. Currently the school offers a two-year, part-time executive MBA programme, aimed at upper level, middle managers seeking to progress further. It is designed to be intellectually stimulating and challenging and the application of theory in practice is an essential element of the course. Both personal and professional development is emphasised. For example, in first year students attend a three-day development session focusing on enhancing their leadership capabilities. In the second year, students participate in a study trip abroad, which aims to expose them to international perspectives on the study and practice of management. The Queen’s MBA is non-sector specific so that students, who come from various functional and organisational contexts, can benefit from the diverse perspectives, knowledge and experience of their peer group. It is also exclusively post-experience, with students normally bringing a considerable body of postgraduate employment knowledge and practice with them. A further feature is that the numbers admitted onto the programme are kept small to enhance peer learning and to allow productive relationships to develop within the student body and between students and staff.

Graduating with a MBA will not only accelerate

an executive’s career progression but will also widen their opportunities. For instance, some of our graduates have advanced their careers by moving from specialist to generalist posts, whilst others have gained promotion. Consequently, many of our graduates are in senior positions in industry, commerce and the voluntary sector both in Northern Ireland and elsewhere. Further, MBA graduates have established an Alumni Association which provides an opportunity to build upon relationships formed during the programme and to develop a robust professional network throughout all sectors of the Northern Ireland economy and beyond. While the MBA is an intensive programme of

study requiring time and commitment, we are confident that the two years spent at Queen’s University Belfast will provide an interesting, enjoyable and profitable experience. Further information on the Queen’s Executive

MBA and other executive education provision is available at www.qub.ac.uk/mgt/execed
