priority to all of their clients,” says Michelle. “At Studio 82, I offer a more personalised service and can really get a feel for what a company wants to achieve from their publishing material, whether that be in print or online. I think the personal touch is very important, no matter what economic circumstances we are experiencing. I also offer branding and marketing design and expertise; while working with professionals in other areas of the publishing industry, allows me to cover pretty much all bases for a company’s publishing requirements.” Before establishing Studio 82, Michelle had worked in the publishing and media industry in Ireland as a graphic and magazine layout designer for over ten years. During that time she worked with many corporate clients who gave her a front row seat to observe corporate mentality when it comes to publishing, and an insight into how to deal with Ireland’s leading blue chip companies. So, when the time came to make the decision to start-up her own company, Michelle knew that on top of her design skills, she would have to offer more of an all round publishing service if she was

to gain a foothold in a market where client’s demands are increasing as they cut costs in their own companies. “These days, more and more companies have no choice but to cut costs. Outsourcing some of their functions goes hand-in-hand with that, and in many cases, publishing (i.e. producing marketing collateral, creating and boosting online presence, etc.) is not in their area of expertise,” she says. “So, with that in mind, Studio 82 branches into more publishing services than just design and layout. I offer web design and consultancy services including using social media as a marketing tool, editorial, branding and marketing, as well as design. I have found that businesses, especially SMEs in Ireland, are becoming increasingly aware of their image, how they are perceived by customers and potential customers, and how they are getting their message out there. Studio 82 can assist all companies, large or small, in facilitating both their internal and external communications through all forms of media. I believe that that’s Studio 82’s unique selling point.”

SILVER CIRCLE.IE

The success of any new business is almost always as much about the business idea as it is about the attributes of the person coming up with idea. Coming up with a unique idea, something that nobody else has thought of before, is always a likely contender for success. So when Brian Maher set up SilverCircle.ie in 2009, it quickly became apparent that he had spotted a gap in the market. SilverCircle.ie is a website aimed at over 55s, a community which is often overlooked in the media, according to Brian. “There are more over 55s online than people think,” he says. “The community is growing at an alarming rate but they are not adequately represented in the media. SilverCircle.ie was set up to offer an online outlet to that community and is exclusively aimed at the needs and wants of this particular market.” The website has articles on health and well-

being, personal finance and lifestyle, as well as relationships and technology. Updated every day with new content, the site is a portal that every 55 and over will find useful. There’s even a daily crossword and sudoko puzzle available for keeping the mind active whilst pondering
