pay for your stay will die out completely, the UK has become a ‘test bed’ for alternatives. Pay by mobile phone, smartcards and ‘wave and
pay’ technology have all broken new ground, as the UK leads Europe in terms of providing cutting-edge parking technology. Such new technologies are proving popular, and
innovations like paying by phone and via contactless card ‘readers’ should become an increasingly familiar experience. However, the degree to which new technical
solutions are adopted in the public sector might be a moot point over the next few years, given the financial
