ALLIANCE LEARNING AWARD FOR X-FACTOR STAR

The Apprentice of the Year prize at the Alliance Learning Annual Awards has gone to a young electrical engineer. Twenty one year old Shaun Rogerson also picked up the award for Electrical Engineering apprentice for his outstanding development at Travtec. The event, which took place on 11th March at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium, was hosted by GMTV’s senior news correspondent Elaine Willcox. Alliance Learning awards apprentice and commercial course learners from the north west for their dedication to their engineering development. Commenting on the awards evening, chief executive Steve Whitehead, said, ‘This year’s annual awards have been one of our most successful yet, with a record amount of money being raised for our chosen charity, The Bolton Hospice.’ There was an extra treat in store as Shaun, from

Total Electrical Training has introduced a new training programme for electricians in solar photovoltaic (solar PV) installation. In line with the new government ‘Feed-In Tariff’, and with the rising potential of solar PV, Total Electrical Training has set out to equip electricians with the knowledge and skills to implement PV systems into building projects.

In April it launched a new four day NICEIC/MCS

accredited course aimed at those seeking registration with the Micro Generation Certification (MCS) scheme provider. The course will cover both health and safety, PV design and planning considerations, site surveys, solar radiance calculation as well as providing details of how PV actually works. In addition, there is detailed information on actual systems, FIT estimates, grid connections, building regulations and working with the appropriate standards, testing and commissioning.

MANDELSON ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR NATIONAL SKILLS ACADEMY

Employers in the building services engineering sector are to benefit from a new national skills academy that will co-ordinate skills training in design, installation and maintenance of environmental technologies. Approval for the bid, led on behalf of employers in the sector by SummitSkills, to create the £3m Building Services Engineering Green Skills Academy was announced by Business Secretary Lord Mandelson on 17th March. The academy will play a key role in transforming the ability for businesses in the sector to access the training and skills they will need to meet future increased demand for the installation of renewable and environmental technologies in the UK.

Keith Marshall OBE, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘The creation of a Building Services Engineering Green Skills Academy is a critical step forward for the BSE sector. ‘Future jobs and employment in the sector depend on the ability of businesses and employers to develop the skills to deal with the task of fitting the environmental technologies, which will be commonplace as the UK meets its commitments to the low carbon agenda.’ Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4  |  Page 5  |  Page 6  |  Page 7  |  Page 8  |  Page 9  |  Page 10  |  Page 11  |  Page 12  |  Page 13  |  Page 14  |  Page 15  |  Page 16  |  Page 17  |  Page 18  |  Page 19  |  Page 20  |  Page 21  |  Page 22  |  Page 23  |  Page 24  |  Page 25  |  Page 26  |  Page 27  |  Page 28  |  Page 29  |  Page 30  |  Page 31  |  Page 32  |  Page 33  |  Page 34  |  Page 35  |  Page 36  |  Page 37  |  Page 38  |  Page 39  |  Page 40
