UW Sailing Team and Hoofer Sailing Club Hosts The 2010 ICSA Collegiate Nationals May 25-June 3
The Intercol legiate Sai l ing
Association (ICSA) Collegiate Nationals are the premier event in collegiate sailing and the last regatta of the academic year. They are held for 10 days, with three separate competitions to decide the national champions in the top three categories in collegiate 420 sailing: Women's Nationals, Team racing Nationals and Coed Dinghy Championships. The 2010 Nationals will be hosted by
Hoofer Sailing Club and the University of Wisconsin Sailing Team on Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisconsin. Fifty-nine teams will be participating, comprising of 400 students from 18 colleges. ESPN will be there to cover the event. The UW Sailing Team is a separate
organization within Hoofer Sailing Club that operates as a club sport. The last time UW hosted this event was in 1996 and it is an honor for a club program to be selected to host it.
Though it is a club sport, the UW
Sailing Team competes against varsity- level programs such as Yale, Harvard and St. Mary’s. The club attracts some of the top inland sailors in the Midwest despite the fact that it is not a varsity sport and all recruitment is student-run. Members must fundraise to pay for regatta fees, equipment, and travel and periodic coaching. Because of the cost of hosting the
Nationals, extensive fundraising must be done, and the sailing team has a goal of $40,000, of which $33,000 has been raised so far. To help the UW Sailing Team reach their goal, contribute a tax-deductible donation online at http://www.uwsailingteam.org/icsa- nationals-2010/donations Contact: Micah Kearns, Marketing

Spend the weekend in Port Townsend
and enjoy the racing and camaraderie of fellow wooden boat owners. New this year, there will be classes for T-Birds, Folkboats, Gaffers, Concordias, Spitsgat- ters, and Schooners. If you can gather three or more of any type of wooden boat, you can have a class! There will also be an inshore course for smaller and slower boats, as well as a Sunday morning race for wooden kayak and row boats. If you do not race, come to enjoy
the entertainment and be a part of the spectator fleet. If you wish to participate and do not have your own boat; sign up to crew on another boat, watch the race from the Northwest Maritime Center deck, or join in with the Sea Shanties. For more info, call (360) 301-4938
