Sandals resorts have been supporting community outreach initiatives for over 25 years. From educational programmes to community centres, they are committed to investing in a positive future for the Caribbean. Sandals resorts have founded the Sandals Foundation, which represents a way for Sandals and Beaches resorts to give back to the community through initiatives that support, uplift and improve the lives of the Caribbean people. They focus on three main areas: COMMUNITY, EDUCATION and ENVIRONMENT.
COMMUNITY
Over the years, Sandals resorts have worked with their local communities to develop programmes that give people the opportunity to change their lives. This has included supporting children’s homes; skills training for youths; animal shelters and care; youth mentorship programmes; infirmary and hospice support to the elderly; inspiration for youth through sports camps; Health Clinics (HIV, dental & optical); and even a Haiti Relief Fund, to support disaster relief efforts at the recently earthquake-stricken Haiti.
EDUCATION

Working closely with local schools and communities is something Sandals resorts strongly believe in. Hundreds of students have been awarded with Sandals scholarships to ensure they will reach their full academic potential. Sandals resorts have also adopted 26 schools across their combined communities, providing support and assistance in maintaining buildings, organising student seminars and visits, mentorship programmes and encouraging the importance of learning through fun, including using famous Sesame Street® characters to capture the imagination of youngsters. Guests and partners have also been involved in Sandals’ literacy drive by donating books and visiting local schools to assist children with their reading skills.
ENVIRONMENT
In a need to protect the delicate ecosystems, Sandals Foundation works with locals and organisations to clean beaches and with International groups to build, monitor and maintain coral reefs. The organisation supports the Negril Recycling Centre to help alleviate landfills in the Caribbean. This past year along side the Jamaican Government the Foundation has demarked two Marine Sanctuaries to protect Marine & Coral Life. One of the major components of the Sandals Foundation’s environmental area is educational programmes for communities and students to spread awareness as to how we can all preserve our planet.
